UV prints on cardboards for mechanical music

Men's hands brandish tools whose shape evokes hammers, pincers and pentaprisms. These artifacts seem to have become so obsolete that no one today can say with any certainty what they were once used for. The images documenting them were printed on music cards for mechanical organs. These archaic media, whose operating principle is similar to that of Pianola rolls, are the ancestors of MIDI files and the cousins of the punched cards and tapes used in the early days of computing. Here, they suggest the repetitive, throbbing rhythm of mechanical music, but also the impossibility of deciphering the sound or identifying the representations they support.
