The concept of apparatus, developed by Vilém Flusser in his book For a phylosophy of photography, underlies an analysis of the production logic of photography. He describes the camera as a black box, activated by functionaries who run the program. But this overlooks the fact that the camera must also be built and the program developed, and that there are other devices that do that. These photographs show a custom-made device photographed in the Dresden Museum of Technology's storerooms, the use of which has now been forgotten. Equipped with mirrors, an eye-lens and multiple sides, it was probably designed to control or make adjustments to cameras, and evokes constructivist imagery when photographed from certain angles.
